As the weather gets nicer out, I thought I'd share some tips on how to drink more water for those who can't get past the struggle of forgetting to stay hydrated!

I'm sure we already know how important it is to drink water. So I'll skip on the "did you know" facts, and get straight to the point. You need to drink water every single day, it's necessary for our bodies, so just do it! I grew up loving water. I barely drank sodas, I wasn't even a huge fan of juice unless it was either apple or orange juice. Sorry, Kool-Aid man... So let's get into it!

15 Ways to Drink More Water

#1 Set an alarm.

Whether you use a high-tech water bottle that notifies you when it's time to drink or you set up an alarm on your phone, either will work! That constant reminder really does work, especially when you get sidetracked through-out the day and forget all about your hydration.

#2 Keep a tracker.

I could talk about how much I love using habit trackers for hours... but I'll save that for another day! Habit tracking is amazing and works really well, so why not use it to track how much water you're drinking? Sometimes making yourself a checklist can help motivate you in completing your tasks.

#3 Infuse water with fruits, vegetables, or herbs.

If you find water boring, add some of your favorite fruits, veggies, or even some herbs! I like to use cucumber and lemons. Some great combinations are [oranges and grapefruit], [lime, cucumber, and mint], [strawberries and blueberries], [lemon and blueberries]! However, you can put anything you want, always so good and refreshing.

#4 Exercise.

I love to exercise! Whether it's cardio, yoga, weight lifting, playing a sport, I'm all over it. Exercise is a great way to stay healthy and all of that movement will surely increase your thirst.

#5 Always have your water bottle filled and in the fridge for the next morning.

Keep water bottles filled and ready to go. I use a Brita, and every night before I head to bed I fill it up so my water in the morning is ready to go. These are great for keeping your water nice and cold up to 24 hours and keep liquids hot for up to 12 hours! Plus they are great for the environment.

#6 Drink from a straw.

I don't know why, but I drink so much more water when I have a straw! Drinking through a straw increases the amounts of water you drink in a shorter period of time! Check out these straws! Metal straws are really good for the environment! You can use them when you go out to reduce your usage of plastic straws since they come with a mini bag to carry them in.

#7 Choose sparkling or mineral water over soda.

I'm personally not a huge soda drinker. I rarely ever have pop, even as a child! If you do consume a lot of soda, try sparkling water! It'll give you that same bubbly addiction you're experiencing from pop without all of the horrible ingredients. This is my Soda Stream!

#8 Eat water-rich foods.

Get your water from fruits and veggies! Fruits and veggies are already a great item to add to your meal planning, so hit two birds with one stone! Eating better and getting hydrated? Heck yes. Some great options are watermelon, celery, cucumber, strawberries, and lettuce.

#9 Order water when out at restaurants.

I order water every single time I go out to eat, with the occasional sangria of course :). Ordering water with your meals can increase your water intake while avoiding sodas and sugary juices which is so good for your health, and also can save you money. If you want, order the drink you want (coke, iced tea, 7up, cocktails, beer, etc.) and also order water.

#10 keep water on your nightstand.

Has anyone else ever woke up in the middle of the night and their throat was drier than the desert? That has happened to me so many times, and I dreaded having to leave my bed to go get water. Now, I always leave a filled up water bottle on my side table so that I don't have to go to the kitchen to get a glass.

#11 Get a refill as soon as your cup/bottle is empty.

Once you finish your bottle of water, get up to refill it right away! Then you'll always have water to drink throughout the day. Or fill up 2 bottles of water and begin drinking from one and then use the second once the first is finished. Similar concept because you still have to get up to get your filled bottle, but whatever your brain desires.

#12 Establish a routine or habit stack.

Routines can help you develop habits, and developing the habit of drinking water is a lifesaver! Once you develop the habit of drinking water you won't ever have to read another "ways to drink more water" post again! But I do love that you're here :)... You could even set yourself a rule, for example, every time you check your phone, drink water! Every time you use the bathroom, drink water!

As mentioned in my "8 productive morning habits" post, drinking water first thing in the morning is super important! After spending 8 hours asleep, you've gone a long time without hydration.

#13 Drink from larger bottles.

I get it, having to get up millions of times to re-fill your glass of water can get annoying. Especially when we are in the middle of working, or just extremely busy and preoccupied. My solution? Just use a bigger bottle.

#14 Bring water with you where ever you go.

Always having your water bottle is a great way to stay hydrated while out and about. This not only saves money in case you get thirsty during your daily travels, but it ensures that you don't end up spending money and getting a sugary drink vs water.

#15 Draw lines on your water bottle with times.

Label your bottle with drinking targets! Place a mark where ever your water level should be at by 9 a.m, 10 a.m, 12 p.m, etc. This is a great way to set yourself a goal and have a reminder as well.
